Premier Orthopaedic Associates welcomes Dr. Niti D. Cooper to its family!
Dr. Cooper's many accolades -- including being awarded South Jersey Magazine's Top Physician in Pain Management for three years running in 2019, 2020, and 2021-- represent her esteemed reputation as a leading figure in Anesthesiology and Interventional Pain Management.
Born and raised in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, Dr. Cooper’s parents immigrated to the United States. Life was always busy and family time took on special importance as a way to reconnect and have fun together. These memories spirited her decision to enter the field of pain management and anesthesiology while she was an undergraduate studying psychology at Boston University. Helping a patient return to their life without pain comes from her core values of prioritizing time with family and friends and enjoying life to the fullest.
Dr. Cooper's professional experiences gave her the tools and skills to expand her mission to enable people to live their best lives. She attended medical school at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, School of Osteopathic Medicine. Her internship was at Kennedy Memorial Hospital, and later, her residency as Chief Resident was in Anesthesiology at Cooper University Hospital where she also completed her fellowship in Interventional Pain Management. These experiences combined allowed her to treat any and all sorts of patients, including challenging cases.
One of Dr. Cooper's patients, a war veteran with a history of osteosarcoma, sought treatment for his phantom limb pain. As a person with a leg amputation up to his hip, the patient was still experiencing pain from where his leg was formerly attached to his body. By placing a wire in the epidural space of his spine, known as a dorsal column stimulator, Dr. Cooper was able to reduce his sensation of pain. The patient was now able to control an electrical signal that, in essence, cancels out the brain's perception of phantom pain. Dr. Cooper gave her patient's life back into his own hands. Now he can enjoy what he misses the most in his life: Spending time with his wife and his daily walks with his dog .
A one-size-fits-all approach to medicine is not a part of Dr. Cooper's care, because she connects with her patients and their families to get the full picture, frequently over a long period of time. She often suggests a range of treatments to manage pain partly as a way to reduce opiate use as well as to treat the whole person. She includes non-medical treatments such as meditation, cognitive behavioral therapy, exercise, and ergonomics, in addition to the more specialized and intensive procedures like radiofrequency ablation or epidurals. By understanding a patient's home life, work life, and family life, Dr. Cooper's approach to healthcare makes for a better treatment experience while also forming relationships in the communities that she serves.
Dr. Cooper treats her patients using a whole host of resources and disciplines, which has only been enhanced with her arrival at Premier Orthopaedic Associates of Southern New Jersey. Premier Orthopaedic Associates team of doctors, surgeons, physical therapists, sports medicine specialists, and staff work together like a world-class orchestra in concert together to enable their patients to have their life back. With the addition of Dr. Cooper to the interventional pain management and spine team, Premier continues to expand into the Camden and Burlington Counties helping rural and suburban communities of South Jersey.
